PRINCE!!! My thoughts on a legend (My birthday tribute)

Today is my 39th birthday. Yesterday was Prince's last day on Earth :(.
I woke up this morning to my FB feed and it's flooded with birthday wishes but also Prince memories and tributes.

Prince Rogers Nelson was (excuse me IS) my favorite singer of all time. He was my big brother (in my head) that got me through some good, bad, and ugly times. My iPad has a Prince Mix with hundreds of songs. My favorite movie of ALL time is "Purple Rain". This man was my everything!!! I feel everyone in the world is feeling this way too . When Michael Jackson died...I was upset but with Prince, I lost a family member. My big brother is gone *tears*.

I cried so much yesterday that my eyes were bloodshot RED. This morning I shed some tears because it is still unreal to me that he's gone. My birthday feels so empty without him. I just want to stay in the bed and play his music...

I remember when I first heard Prince. I was 4 or 5 and I heard "I Wanna Be Your Lover". That guitar intro...phenomenal. OMG who is this dude with the perm and wearing HEELS??? WTF??? Dude you had my <3. My love affair with Prince began.

My first Prince album was 1999. I played that on my record player faithfully!!! Knowing what I know now about that album LOL I should not have been listening to it. Then my first Prince concert at the Cleveland Convention Center. The 1999 tour with The Time, Vanity 6, and Prince. When he got on top of that bed and was grinding Vanity, my cousin tried to cover my eyes but I was intrigued not by that move but this lil man and the hold he had on me.

In 1984 I was forever changed. "Purple Rain" came out and I remember going with my mom to opening night at the Miles Drive-In theatre. Ironically it rained a little that night. The music, outfits, the cheesy plot I was taking it all in wishing I was in Minneapolis. My mom got me the album. Of course I loved every song but I'm cheesy so "Darling Nikki" is my favorite LOL. I had a Purple Rain poster in my room with my MJ Thriller, New Edition and Miami Vice posters. But Prince was right there when I went to sleep and woke up to give him a kiss everyday. Then "Under The Cherry Moon" came out in 1986 and because I loved France, black and white movies, the music and once again cheesy plots, I adored this movie.

As the years rolled on I fell in love with him more and more. I was smitten by how this man's music was unique and powerful!!! Prince reinvented himself with every album. He made me want to see and hear more from him each year. Even the other movies he made "Sign O' The Times" and "Graffiti Bridge" which were my least favorite, still had me jamming.

2004 was the last time I saw Prince in concert. I was pregnant with my 3rd son and about to get married to my husband. He knew Prince and when we met that was one of the things we bonded on. It was the ultimate date night. We got a free CD "Musicology" (another one I played and still play faithfully) and I just enjoyed Prince.

This post would be forever with all the memories I have of my "big brother" but I will end. He IS an icon, legend, innovator, inspirer, purple being, etc. The list goes on and on. Prince this is my tribute to you on my birthday. I want the world to know you will never ever be replaced and nothing compares to you!!!

Share your favorite Prince stories, songs, etc. Let me know what kind of impact he had on you!!!

SMOOCHIES

Mika
